10th FLUKA COURSE, USB, CARACAS, VENEZUELA

Introduction

FLUKA is a fully integrated particle physics Monte-Carlo simulation package. It has many applications in high energy experimental physics and engineering, shielding, detector and telescope design, cosmic ray studies, dosimetry, medical physics and radio-biology. More information, as well as related publications can be found on the FLUKA website. The 10th FLUKA School will be conducted by the Laboratory of Nuclear Physics, Universidad Simón Bolívar. The dedicated school will help professionals working in the Monte Carlo radiation transport fields to understand the various functions and attributes of the code. The course will start with the basic ideas but will quickly progress to the advanced aspects of the code. Few examples from the participants will be taken up during the course.

Course Fee

  • There is a course fee of 500 $. The amount will be used to partially cover the travel cost of the faculty members and preparing the course materials. The course fee will also cover accommodation charges at the DAE guest house, breakfast, lunch and coffee breaks. Dinner will be arranged at the guest house, the charges of which will be intimated at a later date.

  • An official dinner is also planned. However this will be proposed during the period of the course.

  • Like all previous courses, the intake is limited and acceptance will be on a first come first served basis.

Register

Registration can be done by completing the form and sending it to the course organizers. Please make arrangements for the payment as soon as your participation is accepted by the organizers.

Venue

Accommodation will be air-conditioned rooms single rooms with cable television. Transport from airport to guest house accommodation and back can be arranged by the organizers. This is the recommended way to reach the guest house. On prior intimation, the organizers will arrange someone to receive the participant at the airport. Please contact the local organizers for the arrangement.

Prior Knowledge

No particular experience with FLUKA or similar Monte-Carlo packages is required, however basic knowledge of LINUX/UNIX is welcome. For newcomers, not only to FLUKA but also to Linux, we strongly recommend you to have a look into a Linux tutorial in order being able to profit at maximum from the FLUKA course.

Computers

Intel desktop machines will be arranged with 3 participants expected to share one machine. Those who have personal laptops are encouraged to bring them for the course. However, in order to avoid delay during the course, please ensure that the operating system and the required compilers are configured before the start of the course.

Personal Laptop

If you have your own laptop that you would prefer to use during the course we would kindly ask you bringing it along and inform the course organization committee about it. If possible, please verify the correct functioning of FLUKA and FLAIR already prior to the course start. If you experience problems, please contact us ahead of the course in order to avoid installation and configuration problems during the actual course. You can find additional information concerning installation, needed libraries, etc. in the FLUKA Questions Mailing List or the FAQs.

Laptop requirements

  • Laptop with Linux pre-installed

Check the requirements page. (Para ser editado)

  • Laptop with only Windows XP, Vista or Mac OS/X

FLUKA can run in a virtual machine, most preferably through Sun's VirtualBox. Ensure that you have the required memory:

    PlatformMin. Memory (RAM only)
    Windows XP1 Gb
    Windows Vista2 Gb
    Mac OS/X1 Gb

Please check the FLUPIX for more information.
