Request for Proposal – Latin America

The project has two parts:

1) Direct Application of Mobile Technology, FS-2181 and FS-2281 (1200 students/year).

2) Development: Automatic remote data transfer, research, basic and advanced teaching laboratories.


Experiments to be reviewed and modified at the USB Physics Laboratory during the HP project.

Description of the Grant Award

The 2006 HP Technology for Teaching Grant award for higher education includes several elements, valued at more than $63,000 (USD).

  • A product bundle for one faculty member and a classroom, valued at approximately $55,000 (HP Internet List Price, USD)

    Faculty Presentation Solution:

    • 1– Wireless HP Tablet PC with Microsoft® Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition
    • 1– Tablet docking station and DVD-CDRW optical drive
    • 1– Portable HP Digital projector

    Classroom Solution:

    • 20– Wireless HP Tablet PC with Microsoft® Windows® XP Tablet PC Edition
    • 20– External Drive Bay and DVD-CDRW optical drive
    • 1– Access Point with wireless card
    • 1– 20 unit Laptop cart
    • 1– HP All-in-One inkjet printer and digital camera
       
  • $7,500 (USD) in cash as a stipend for the Principal Investigator to work on the project. This funding can be used to offset the normal course load, or shared with other faculty and/or interns supporting the project. The stipend comes to the university as an unrestricted gift. HP will not finance indirect costs.
     
  • Attendance at the annual Worldwide HP Technology for Teaching Higher Education conference in early 2007. HP will provide travel and hotel accommodations for a single participant from each institution, plus $500 (USD) in cash to cover miscellaneous travel expenses related to the conference. More information about this conference will be shared with recipients 3-4 months prior to the event.
